rattles and poor economy

Postby jlar » Sun Jun 19, 2011 8:15 pm

hi, got an ex demo countryman 1.6 auto petrol cooper with 1500 miles on the clock, chilli pack, sunroofs. love car but.....
*rattles from both front doors
* car sounds like it is over rev'ing and not changing up gear properly - drives much nicer in manual auto mode
* sluggish in auto mode
* poor fuel consumption - c 24mpg around town but I get 23mpg in my 2005 audi 3l v6 auto A4 convertible so i don't have a heavy foot.

going into dealer ~(not the one we bought it from) to have it checked.....

can anyone tell me how we can get a light to appear on dash to show when headlights / side lights are on? The petrol gauge lights in big central speedo are v bright too

anyone else with similar problems?

Hi yes had similar issues.
I had door rattles, never fixed.
Rattle that turned out to be the interior mirror ( after a week at the dealers)
Rust over the rear.
Scratched spoiler
Harmon kardon issues.
Interior map lights coming on their own.
The rear washer used to come on when you used the front this took three visits to fix.
After 6 weeks at the dlrs they said they couldn't fix it to my standards and refused to sell me another car.
I had nothing but crap from Mini and the dlr so we walked away.
Shame as I liked the Countryman but we have moved on and realise what a real car and real dealers are like.
Hope you get yours fixed.

managed to get the rattle fixed - was actually within glove box
they said nothing wrong with engine but they must have tweaked the management system because fuel consumption on same routes gone from 24mpg to 30mpg which is all i expected on school run....

nice to drive and practical car.

Our car is back in for rattles from dash and doors, also faulty passenger window that won't go up on one touch, third time in for this alone and the reading lights have a mind of their own. The most annoying thing is the courtesy car is a Fiat Panda that's great on fuel compared to mini cooper ave 34mpg but most of all not a rattle or squeak from the Panda! Been told that a mini quality inspector will look at car over the next couple of weeks. What do u think grounds to reject?

I've got no rattles or squeaks, but after 4000 miles the fuel economy is shocking. I have a Cooper D All4
